What Does BNB Chain Mean?
BNB Chain is the name of the broader blockchain ecosystem rather than one single wallet network. Current BNB Chain documentation describes the ecosystem as including BNB Smart Chain, opBNB and BNB Greenfield.
For most ordinary BEP20 transfers, the relevant blockchain is BNB Smart Chain, not “all of BNB Chain”. This is why a wallet may use BNB Chain as a brand label while still showing BNB Smart Chain or BSC as the specific transaction network.
BNB Smart Chain
BNB Smart Chain is the main EVM-compatible smart-contract blockchain in the ecosystem. It supports decentralized applications, BEP20 tokens and BNB-based gas fees.
This is the chain most users interact with when they add BNB Chain to MetaMask, withdraw a BEP20 token or inspect a transaction on BscScan.
opBNB
opBNB is a Layer 2 scaling solution associated with the BNB Chain ecosystem. It is a separate network environment from BNB Smart Chain even though it is designed to scale activity connected to BSC.
A wallet or exchange option labeled opBNB should therefore not be treated as another spelling of BSC. Network support must be checked separately.
BNB Greenfield
BNB Greenfield is the decentralized data-storage component of the broader BNB Chain ecosystem. It has a different purpose from the EVM smart-contract network used for ordinary BEP20 transfers.
The existence of Greenfield is another reason the ecosystem name BNB Chain should not be treated as technically identical to BNB Smart Chain.
What Happened to BNB Beacon Chain?
Older articles often describe BNB Chain as a dual-chain ecosystem containing BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain. That description is historical and should not be used as the current architecture.
Through the BNB Chain Fusion process, Beacon Chain functionality was migrated to BNB Smart Chain and the Beacon Chain was retired. Official BNB Chain documentation states that the Beacon Chain has been shut down and no longer processes new transactions.
This matters because old BEP2 instructions can still appear in search results. New BNB Smart Chain users should not follow an old Beacon Chain/BEP2 transfer workflow as if it were the current default network path.

What Does BSC BEP20 Mean?
“BSC BEP20” combines the blockchain and token-standard labels. BSC identifies BNB Smart Chain, while BEP20 identifies the token standard commonly used by fungible tokens on that network.
A BEP20 token is therefore not another blockchain. It is a token contract that exists on BNB Smart Chain.

Is BNB Smart Chain BEP20?
BNB Smart Chain itself is not “a BEP20 token”. It is the blockchain where BEP20 contracts run.
Native BNB is also different from an ordinary BEP20 token contract because BNB is the network's native gas asset. This distinction matters when a wallet asks you to choose between a native coin and a token contract.
Is Binance Smart Chain on Ethereum?
No. BNB Smart Chain is a separate blockchain from Ethereum.

BEP20
BEP20 usually appears as a withdrawal-network label because it tells users that the asset will move as a BEP20 token on BNB Smart Chain. Strictly speaking, BEP20 is the token standard rather than the blockchain name.
If an exchange offers the same asset as ERC20, TRC20 and BEP20, those choices represent different blockchain routes and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Binance Smart Chain
Binance Smart Chain is the historical full name of BSC. Older wallets, articles, RPC examples and support pages may still use it.
Seeing the older name does not automatically mean the information is wrong, but other details should be checked because the article may also contain outdated Beacon Chain or BEP2 instructions.
What Is the BSC Network for USDT?
When a wallet or exchange says “USDT BSC” or “USDT BEP20”, it normally means a USDT-like stablecoin asset transferred through BNB Smart Chain. The network selection must match the token contract supported by the destination.

What Is a BSC Wallet Address?
A BSC wallet address is a BNB Smart Chain-compatible EVM address, normally beginning with 0x. The same self-custody account can display the same-looking address on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains.
That address similarity does not merge the networks. The sender still has to choose BNB Smart Chain for a BSC/BEP20 transfer.
